| When a hat is made,
it is blocked to a certain hat size. Generally,
less expensive hats will be a named size such as
small, medium, large, and extra large while finer
hats are fitted to a person's head and have a
numerical size. Hat sizes are traditionally
stated in eighths of an inch. After measuring
your head you need to use the chart below to
convert your measurement into your hat size. We
describe our hat sizes by actual imperial and
metric measurements as well as in the traditional
fashion for your convenience.
To find your hat
size use a fabric tape measure. Place it firmly
around your head an inch above your eyebrows
around the widest part of the head. Take the
measurement a couple of times to be sure of the
size or ask a friend to help. Measure to the
nearest cm or eighth of an inch and round up if
the measurement falls between the marks.
American hat sizes
are included in the chart below for information
but please note that they are an eighth of an
inch larger than UK hat sizes.
Did
you know that the average female head has a
circumference of 22 ½ inches (57cm) and is a
size 7 UK hat size. What size are you?
