What's my hat size?

When a hat is made, it is blocked to a certain hat size. Generally, less expensive hats will be a named size such as small, medium, large, and extra large while finer hats are fitted to a person's head and have a numerical size.

Hat sizes are traditionally stated in eighths of an inch. After measuring your head you need to use the chart below to convert your measurement into your hat size. We describe our hat sizes by actual imperial and metric measurements as well as in the traditional fashion for your convenience.

To find your hat size use a fabric tape measure. Place it firmly around your head an inch above your eyebrows around the widest part of the head. Take the measurement a couple of times to be sure of the size or ask a friend to help. Measure to the nearest cm or eighth of an inch and round up if the measurement falls between the marks.

American hat sizes are included in the chart below for information but please note that they are an eighth of an inch larger than UK hat sizes.
